i have an external haed disk and it developed issues where I could not open it since it was not visible ,but when I plug it am told to format it and when I click yes am told unable to format,how do I resolve such an issue? * +

Is it a laptop drive or a full size hard drive in the case . If it is a full size hdd , just pop it from the case and connect to your pc and format away . * +

its a portable harddrive,seagate freeagent go,I carry my stuff with it,am unsure how to go about yhat procedure. * +

There are converters for them so you can connect them to a pc . Try google . * +

it sounds like either the external connector has failed (not seeing the drive) or the disk has been damaged (asking to be formatted) * +

so ither remove it from its external housing and put it in either a lappy or pc and try formatting or throw it away. * +
