hey guys after a power surge dat damaged system files...i did a a repair and now the p.c is fast like when i got it...after how long should one do repairs for windows? am thinking of doing it once each month...how about that? * +

whenever your pc starts to get sluggish again . tbh windows 7 on my laptop is still as fast as it was 6 months ago . * +

repair as in repaire install? only do that when your pc caks up. its not for just restoring it w*llynilly. you will do more harm than good. * +

if you want your rig to run as fast as possable keep startup entrys to a minimum, clean with ccleaner, defrag regularly (1s a month or more depending on downloads and installs) keep all your antimalware apps up to date and you should minamize slowdown * +

cleanup the registry and defragment the hard drive,maintain your system and if you use a pagefile and its fragmented set it to 0 then reboot and restore to recreate the file as most normal defragmenters wont be able to deal with it as its used by the system.make sure there are not alot of programs running on boot and ditch the unecessery fonts from fonts folder as too many can slow you down. * +

disable services that you dont use but are active and take resources to speed it up even more.to go step further you can also go further online and search for xp performance tweaks like disabling ntfs last access timestamp,disabling paging executive,load system core in ram if you have anough ram that is etc * +

dissabling lat access time stamp will end up slowing your machine down as windows uses it to optomize your hdd every couple of days... or when you defrag. its an integral part of prefetch. * +
