People who know linux will know it. Every1 recommends ubuntu due to the home version or because they used the server version themselves? Freenas the best to use with a stick. Ubuntu one is good its rated 2nd behind freenas of the free solutions * +

all linux OS are lightweight and can do well on a USB.the home version of ubuntu can be converted into a server and can have any application offered by other distros be it openSuse,fedora, redhat,debian etc etc. * +

@nfxcr3w download this http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ and install ubuntu(also many other distros supported) to USB stick... you can even download many distros through this simple installer * +
