Buddies .. Please help me out.. I am confused in buying processor.. Which will give best performance a Core2quad 2.50 or Core i3 2.93 ? I do use my pc for gaming and multimedia.. Thanks * +

Well you just stumbled onto the old debate slow quad v fast dual core. In this case though the slow quad is on an old platform and old architecture. Best performance will be from a new platform and a quad core, entry level quad like a core i5 750 is where i would put my money for intel, but if thats too expensive then i would go to AMD and buy one of their cheaper quads or duals that MIGHT unlock * +

You asked this sort of thing a year ago and i said core 2 would be dead in a year and really, it is because of AMDs cheap quads and intel i5. You also agreed with metuli a YEAR ago that buying new 775 sockets like the core 2 quad is no longer worth it, only as cheap secondhand systems * +

on paper the quad is faster using 4 threads, i3 using two. The quad is on an old, obsolete platform with little room to upgrade in future, the i3 boards support up to enthusiast level quad cores. You decide. I pick the faster dual because of the platform if it was me choosing. But i would buy AMD instead or find more for a i5 750 * +
