if your talking about the motherboard, look under the connector on the board, sometimes it says either sata1 sata2 etc or ide1 or ide2 always conect the hard drive to the one marked 1, thats the one it boots from as the master drive * +

In sata you can set master slave stuffs in bios I guess. * +
