I'd probably assemble a budget pc for gaming. I've decided to go with Gigabyte G41 based mainboard, 4gb ddr3 ram and 9600gt graphics card. And I'm more likely to go with the Core2Duo 2.93ghz but I'm also having a second thought of i3 which costs slightly less than C2D. * +

By looking at two desktops running on i3 and C2D with rest of the same hardware, I felt that C2D has the edge in gaming. Is it only me, or any of you guys have also observed a same thing? And what would you suggest C2D or i3 for my needs? * +

an i3 can be bought for as little as 90 pound for the 2.9ghz version . overclocks really well to , 4 ghz is easy on air * +

its not a massive jump clock for clock over core 2 , but is newer tech and if you get the right motherboard you can use the inigrated gpu on the chip when your not gaming to have a near silent computer * +

i3 is faster by some way overall. It wont be too significant with most games, but for other applications i3 is just common sense. not to mention the platform is newer and will allow future upgrades beyond 775 * +

why confine yourself to maybe a Q6600/6700 as a future 'upgrade' when you open the door for an i7 860 or something * +

Yeah, i3 has to be faster. Its common sense . But I'm least concerned about its performance other than gaming. I was all set to go for i3, until I saw C2D running COD MW2 smoother than its i3 counterpart. Now I should think that there must be something wrong with that i3 pc and it wasnt the processor's fault. * +
