does anyone know what tools can be used to view the directory of a website? i need to be able to see what different folders are in the root directory of a website * +

if its your website then any ftp file transfer program will let you look at the directorys. but you must have the ip, password and port numbers. i use filezilla, its free and well featured. including file drag and drop directory listing and more. * +

if you just want to look at some random joe's website then your out of luck as most are made secure by indexing. if a site is indexed there is no easy way in as they will need a password/login * +

thanks jay.mack. it's a public site that i'm trying to view. but your right, i'm most probably out of luck as they would most probably have username and password needed. * +

strictly depends on configurations. it's either allowed or not. It may be allowed for specific folders, or not. Servers automatically either direct you a to set index file/location or just give you a 403 most of the times. *
