Does win 7 install on fat? I think not, so who cares, xp installs on fat but it wont give u the security features * +

if you use an external hdd in ntfs then you cant use it as an usb on an dvd player. I also experieced this I had to format my hdd the first time i got it, because it cant accepted files bigger the 4gb as mentioned. NTFS is the best option however you cant use it as a portable like a flash drive on dvd players etc... *
