is there a big difference in performance between the 2? Is it worth buying a hex core now, or should u just get the top of the range quad core? * +

6 cores great for video editing , music production ,programing etc . so if your into any of that go for the 6 core , if its games then 4 is more than enough . and an i7 920 is around the same perfomance as the 6 core amd cpu's . i personaly would buy a 6 core system as i use my computer for everything . * +

the amd 890fx chipset is an awsome platform also . much better upgrade path to as amd plan on keeping the am3 socket for at least another couple of years . intel are replacing both i5 and i7 sockets next year . choice is yours * +

imagine the thought of going with amd.. been with intel all mylife. someone find me an AMD chip to outshine the i7 930 at a comparable pricepoint... * +

they said the same for the socket am2 , within a year they braught out am2+ and a year after that it was am3 i can guarentee there will be an am3+ platform b4 long. * +

instead of buying a CPU every month they add a few cores, try NVIDIA TESLA C2050 GPGPU. has 448 cuda cores each capable of 515 Gigaflops giving you more than 1 teraflops http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_tesla_C2050_C2070_us.html * +

maybee a am3+ , but will still take the current cpu's . the new intel chipsets next year wont take the current cpu's * +

not only that gpgpu isnt realy condusive to a propper o.s. yet the programs have to be written specificaly for them. @dj i wouldnt give up hope just yet on the 1366 they have yet to release the low end 6 core yes the 1156 is dead come q1 next year but the 1136 has until q3 at the earliest. and as you say if you just play games transcode the odd dvd then you dont realy * +
