Guys, i'm using my phone as a modem and as soon as i'm connected the programs start search for updates. is there a way i can prevent it without turning off every single program. cnt i block it or sumthing? thank you * +

not really. because they all use different things or most likely connect to port 80 which is defult http port for EVERYTHING. block that and you basically have no internet haha also blocking the program can cause you to have to unblock/block again everytime you want any updates. * +

Windows updates are often crucial to your online security. But you can set windows to inform you when updates are available but not download them automatically. Just makes you aware. * +

I would download them at some stage though, especially if your using windows xp whose security system isnt as good as vista or win 7. * +

Regarding progamme updates type misconfig into the run option in xp or search option in vista or win 7 and check out what windows is loading automatically upon boot up. * +

Dont untick anything you dont recognise though, look out for progams or progam updates. After unticking an item windows will need a restart to action what changes you have made if any. * +

Please note windows 2000 has no misconfig installed as default. * +
