you can get suround sound speaker sets for dvd players, just plug one of these into the pc works the same, got some on mine and the sound is amazing through them and only cost 30 quid * +

you need a decent onboard codec like azalia by realtek. that outputs at 96000hz-192000hz 24it. this is better than dvd quality which is around 48000hz @16bit-24bit (depending on suround options and so on... best of all is a hardware accelerated sound card as they genraly have better output due to better onboard amplification. there are a few around but your looking at a minimum of 60 pounds for * +

M-audio do good 1s for studio quality, creative do gaming sound... xonar do good home theater dolby surround products but all have a mid range that would siut most budgets and give good results. * +

get a creative x-fi go , its a small usb soundcard that sounds increadible for what it is , and can be bought for 30 pound . * +

m-audio do not make anything i would even vaguely call quality. They make the worst most unreliable pieces of cr*p ive ever used. Dont touch anything by them dont * +
