ive just changed my western digital 500gb hard drive for a western digital 1TB cavair black drive . apparatly the black variant are the fastest 7200rpm they make which is why I went for it. cos its a high performance drive I expected a bit more noise but this is a lot louder is this normal for this type of drive anyone know? * +

the speed is there but the drive grinds like the hard drive in my old windows 98 pc surely this cant be right? ive had it professionly installed so no fly by merchant involved. * +

because my desktop is still under warranty I had to have it installed by the dealer. its very fast as I said but the noise, well you have to look inside to convince yourself it is a modern hard drive. should I send it back do you think? the problem is without hearing another one you wouldnt know if its typical for this particular hard drive * +

the only thing I do know is that drives of 1tb or over work differently or so I was told iam unsure if this is related to the noise iam experiancing * +

File placement is very important on a drive. A drive will reach only maximum speed on outter platters. If the files is saved on inner ones it slows down a lot * +

use ultimate defrag and put your system files on outer platter * +

wd black arnt particularly noisey, but does have 3 platters so is noisier than a drive with 2. i dunno if they have acustic managment but you may want to look into that. * +
