avi does not support software / embedded subtitles which means they are hardcoded into the video. * +

depends on the watermark really. if it's an intrusive one there isn't much you can do. I have one set of videos that has a pretty large text floating at the start of the video for like 2 min or so and they didn't QC the release very well so it slightly overlaps with the already small subtitles. *
