Dvd drives don't last that long anymore . But least the they are cheap , as long as you stay away from blu-ray . * +

see if uninstalling the drive via device manager helps . if not your prob still infected * +

The dvd laser is probably messed up . Anything you try may result in severely scratched discs . I learned that the hard way . You don't want to go to the trouble of finding out the scratched disc policy and mailing discs all over the world . * +

sound like its filters are deleted and you still have malware. Download the kaspersky removal tool its free and scan your pc * +

he's probably using a pirate copy of windows. Thats why he just never gets rid of the malwares and viruses embedded onto to the os
