sata, it has more bandwidth for read and write, cheaper now 2. if you have an esata port on your pc it means you can connect directly without having to go through usb thus saving both bandwidth on the usb and get higher transfer rates. * +

SATA is not a hot connect like USB . Always power down before plugging in . Otherwise you could smoke your motherboard .
