Must be a bad update or a corrupt .GCF file . Uninstall the game . Them manually delete the FEAR2.gcf in your steamapps folder . Defrag . Disable your antivirus . And redownload fear2 . * +

you can check the game is hash correct. connect to steam, select the game, then properties. and from there on 1 of the tabs you can check the game integrity, even defrage the game cache. * +

you could also redownload the m.s. files that may have caused the problem in the first place. * +

the ms. c++ runtime. i had a similar problem with gta iv i just redownloaded the runtimes and it worked again. * +
