unrequested/unknown messages are to be treated suspicious especially if they ''sound like spam''. also yeah, exploits everywhere, though they do have somewhat specific targets such as wmp, ie, mshtml, etc. usually microsoft software and windows system components because they are the most used, then there are generic exploits that affect many progs usually through common software libraries that they use such as libpng, gzip etc. *
