If you have 2 x 2Gb modules on a 32bit system, Then you will see the maximum amount of memory available as 3-3.5gb constrained as you already know by the operating system memory address * +

it will only slow don the performance if the motherboard dosent support dual bank dual channel mem. some support dual channel only on the first 2 slots anything after that is tret as single channel and this can slow performance but only if the pc runs out of dual channel mem. *
