No its not a virus its spyware coming via your browser get the adblock firefox extensions and no script. Avg is cr*p remove it get any other. Avg don't disinfect it deletes and when one day you have virus problems you will have no operating system THX to Avg deleting all the system files * +

as you say it was a link you went to. ie a site. you have met the antivirus2010 or a dirivative popup. its basicaly a malware site that hijacks your browser to try to convice you you have an infection thus buy there software. just close the browser and dont go back to that site. if you cant close the browser (it sometimes protects itself like this) open task manager and close iexplore.exe or what * +

most of these sites are harmless and wont leave traces on your pc, as said dissabling java and scripts can help minamise the chance of this kind of thing showing up again but more often than not its just a case of closing the browser and maybe clean your temp forlder just to be shure but realy thats the extream measure, closing is often just all you need. *
