a paid subscrii to an internet service provider, they'll supply a device that'll modulate and demodulate analogue signals to digital signals and vice versa, such a device is called a Modem, one would usually then route this through their home network either wirelessly or hard wired using a device called a router. It's pretty straightforward stuff really. *
