control pannel/system/hardware /device manager should didsplat a list of currently installed hardware and drivers. look for yellow question marks. equals bad/missing drivers * +

Not necessarily. you just need to find and enable onboard sound. sometimes it is disabled in the bios, sometimes its disabled in the device manager or by the operating system automatically when a sound card is installed. i dont know your configuration, but i think its unlikely that you DONT have an integrated sound controller * +
