@sonicbom yes win7 support most 2.1 speakers.. but not from front panel of PC.. you do need proper drivers for mobo... * +

Plug the speakers, RIGHT click the speaker Icon on the Taskbar, Click on Playback Devices, A window will show listing your installed Audio Devices. In most cases, they are two, one being SPDIF or whatever. Click on the one that's SPEAKERS. Set it as DEFAULT, then you can configure it and set the volume up or down. *
