my mate has an acer aspire 5315 running VISTA BASIC. SPEC: intel celeron 2ghz single core with 1gb of ram and 80gb hd. I know its not dual core but he only uses it for web browsing. we all know VISTA isnt exactly the best thing since sliced bread and you could argue that the basic version doesnt offer a true VISTA experiance anyhow. the problem is that his laptop is getting painfully slow * +

so slow that its becoming allmost unusable despite him performing the routine maintenance procedures such as defrag and disk clean via cr*p cleaner etc. my guess is that his computer would be much better on XP or even windows 7 which has been proved to be less resource hungry. although recently someone I know has just purchased exactly the same model ACER 2nd hand and yet his runs twice as fast * +

but its not running VISTA BASIC, its running VISTA EXTREME. it boots up at least twice as fast, and loads everything up double quick. so thats proved that the operating system he has is the main culprit to slow performance? isnt XP ETREME a pirated version though? is anyone out there using it? opinions? * +

incidently I feel the need to point out my mate has no viruses on his laptop. * +

I believe VISTA EXTREME falls under the same catagory as XP black edition and is not an official MICROSOFT product? even so EXTREME seems to work exceptionally well from what I have seen. but what about windows updates and activation issues? * +

i would suggest your mate save his stuff to an external hard drive then format and make a new fresh install of win7. it will be faster. also if he defrags or whatever he should use smart defraggers such as ultimate defrag that push the data he uses most to the edges of the hard drive. and have ccleaner to clear out all the junk. and disable useless startup items. * +
