6+8 pin PCIE yes. which means that it is almost certain to consume well over 200w. the slot gives 75w, and 6 pins have a max of 75. 6 x = max theoretical is 225w, i.e most high end single GPU cards. 8 pin gives up 100w. * +

6 x 2 for some reason didnt come out there. 
anyways im also not convinced that 5870 works very well with tesselation, it just seems to crumble. If nvidia arent lying then maybe their implementation wont mean such a big hit but again im not convinced yet. metro 2033 hardly looks any better in Dx11 than DX9 TBH * +

Thats the thing right there. So far all these DX 11 games dont seem to be much different from DX9 mode. Nah, I think tesselation is still too demanding for the current generation of DX11 cards * +

The 5970 consumes close to 300W I think. I saw a benchmark recently with pair of 5970s in X-fire running on a 1200W PSU. Even on an overclocked i7-975, practically every game was bottlenecking like crazy. Who in their right mind would go for a setup like that. A single 5970 is so powerful that it does bottleneck in a few games. But two of them? Thats just totally insane. * +

8 pin PCIE is 150w. stupid numbers broken on my board since i spilt 
on it pmsl. yes 5970 is just under 300w which is the PCIE maximum of Slot+6+8 pin. that is the limit of current cards on the modern spec without altering standard PSUs *
