i5 and i3 is actually better on a laptop because it runs cooler and supposed to have a higher overclock capability (don't overclock a laptop though or you'll mess it up). Why I say i3 and i5 is better than i7 is because the fabrication process is 35nm and it has a better architecture which is supposed to be more energy efficient and cooler and smaller. * +
