My LG DVD Writer (IDE) stays on Ultra DMA mode 2 all the time. I cannot get it to UDM5 at all... I'm running windows 7. * +

The reason i'm complaining is because i'm only getting maximum burn speeds of 4X on both nero and ashampoo. * +

using the correct ide cable? * +

it could be down to the cable. if its a 40-conductor standard IDE cable instead of an 80 it will limit you to dma 2 mode. check the print on it to see what kind it is. * +

You right its only a 40 pin cable i counted the pins, is it fine if i'm running two devices off it though? * +

Just buy a 80pin ide cable,its cheap enuf.problem solved * +

And leave it in dma mode * +

theres little difference in the outward apearance of a 40 and 80 conductor cable the 80 has 40 ground wires so looks virtualy identical, thats why i said read whats on the cable dont just count the wires. * +
