My friend has the pcg-grt785b. He used a programe called system mechanic to totally clear the hd, problem is now is wont boot from cd so cant install an operating system. I have put cd first in the bios but when it boots its just comes up with a little flashing line and no option to boot from cd, any ideas? * +

Have you entered the BIOS SETUP screen? You must set your computer to firstly boot from a CD/DVD drive in the BIOS. If you can't enter a BIOS SETUP screen, pressing F10/F12 might give you an option to temporarily select a FIRST BOOT DEVICE. Make sure you select CD/ DVD Drive as first boot and that there's an OPERATING SYSTEM DISC in the drive. * +

You may need to try inserting a different SYSTEM DISC. Some DISCS cannot be read by some drives or vice- vesa. * +

Do you mean boot screen? If so it says optical drive (which is set first) then hard disk drive (that has a plus sign at the left hand side?), network then floppy disk drive. * +

The cd does actually spin and seems as if its reading but it just stays on a black screen with the little white flashing line. Its not the disk, iv tried mine and it does exactly the same. * +

hmmm its decided to work now, i put the system mechanic cd in and it booted from that. I then tried windows again and its now installing, how strange. * +
