sounds like a dirty lens. try cleaning it with lens cleaner and a cloth. put a small amount on a cotton bud and gently rub across the surface, then dry with a lens cloth. that is if its not under warenty and your compitent enough to do it. * +

It burns data well to dvd-rw but cant seem to burn to cd-r and dvd-r. I can even drag n drop files in dvd-rw widout problems. * +

in that case it sounds like the lazer is past its best. is it certain brands of disk? often when the lazer is dieing it will read 1 brand but not another. * +

am not sure bout th brands. it doesnt seem to b able to burn to write once discs but can burn to rewritables. * +

sumtimes it just doesnt respond wen trying to read disc and other times it just dont recognise em. * +
