I hav a hp notebook and about 4 months ago i upgraded from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate.howeva since my upgrade i noticed that my games no longer play in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio instead they play in 4:3 fullscreen ratio with black bars on th left n right side of th screen which make th view smaller.anybody know how i can fix this and get my widescreen view of games back? * +

check your desktop resolution is correct. check the games resolution is correct and full screen, not running windowed. remember alt + return maximises * +

The desktop resolution is on th highest level (1280x800) which is also th recommended setting by windows.my games r also not running in window mode and they r also running on mid to high resolution setting dependin on their demand on th computer.iv tried changin both th desktop n game resolutions to lower settings but with no success.i hav a frend wit th same xact problm n we dnt knw wht 2 do * +

Im totally at a loss 4 ideas cz basically my notebook has all th drivers n stuff that it did when i was running vista th only difference is that im now running widows 7 n as a result my games now run in 4:3 aspect ratio.i think i need some windows 7 associated drivers 2 make my games run in widescreen again but i cant find em anywhere on th net * +

had the same problem with older games that didnt have widescreen resolutions but i chose nvidia scaling or was it sum other option 
there in the adjust desktop size and position menu in nvcp! it fixed it for me but dunno if u have ati or intel then its sum other way similar. * +

windows generic monitor driver is the problem. Because its generic it cant detect all your monitors modes so it will run only on default resolutions * +
