Hi my friend has 8gigs of ram and it starts restarting in xp and 7! but was okay in linux. what could be the problem? when he places only 4 it works . * +

2 of them are corsair 2gig 800mhz and other 2 are 2gig 800mhz and without a name only marked sli ready. * +

What do you mean? Windows sees only 4 gigs of ram?? Is he using a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of windows? coz for 4gb or more, he will need a 64-bit version * +

he has win xp 64bit and 7 64bit. it isnt the os fault. it runs fine in linux all 8gig but not in windows. it starts restarting in windows and only works when 4gigs are in. * +

possbly the mem timings are to much for the mem controler to cope with, set all stick timings to the same speed as the slowest. make sure all the volts are correct for the ram, make sure you have hpet set to 64 in bios if its available. try booting into safe mode. if you can get into safemode then you can assume its a software compatability problem and not a windows problem. * +

something that you have installed may not like or be entirley compatable with win7 but the problem only shows up when more ram is available. * +
