nah they are just fine mesh the effect on airflow is neglagble. and no i doupt you could buy a cooler new for that cpu as its 10 years old, if you can you may want to reaply the paste but if i remember correctly the old thlons had direct contact with the hsf so were a b***h to remove and often wer damaged in the process *
