Add medibuntu repository, see google 4 website. Also add Ubuntu restricted extras. Dat's all u need 2 play anything. U may need 2 install libdvd? 2 play copyright dvds * +

U dont need 2 add extra media players etc. It's just the codecs that's left off * +

If i remember correctly, sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras, in terminal. Good thing to do on any fresh install, gets most of the commonly used codecs that are left out because they're not open source. It solved almost all of my problems with Ubuntu. Flash videos still seem to give me issues though. * +

Dude double click a mp3 file and let ubuntu search for the rite codecs, do so with most media files then use ryhmbox or Movie Player to play any media. For vlc just go to terminal and type sudo apt-get install vlc or u can go to add or remove and install it from there. Then use aptOnCd to backup your debs so next time you format u wil use it *
