Yes i know we all bleat on about how fast our machines are and overclocking to an inch of the poor things life, but what about the users of rather slower more sedate machine, the vinage users. How many of us still own and use or program or play games on one of these electronic snail brains? * +

Well nataraly i had to reply to my own post... I still use some home made built on veroboard Z80 cpu based machines. Clock speed 8Mhz! CMOS version of the Zilog Z80 cpu, 128kb ram and 8kb rom. Z80PIO 16 in and out parralle port, serial port, midi and rs232. Z80CTC Counter timer chip. A six character led display, keyboard and casette tape load and save for programs. Real time clock too! ... * +

..Oh and 8 bit analouge to digital and digital to analouge converters. The operating system is a monitor program, you write ur software in machine code and run it. I built several of these in 1994 and they still get used. I started making music on these and useto sample sounds and play them back like a sequencer.How cool is that?! Ive wrote loads of software of diffrent kinds too.So what do u use? * +

NASA would have literally killed for a computer that good in the mid sixties. heck, i bet my phone could have single handedly won the second world war, providing the battery lasted for longer than a day. which it doesnt. * +

they probably still worked though. the BBC computers work easily today over 25 years after first produced. * +
