A FAMILY was caught up in the middle of a 999 drama sparked by a Facebook alert. Fire, police and ambulance crews turned up at the Holmes household in Breightmet just before midnight on Tuesday after a status update on the popular social networking claimed that two people were trapped in a burning house. The drama unfolded when a concerned caller dialled 999 after a Facebook friend said two people were trapped upstairs at the property in Slimbridge Close. * +

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 11.40pm and three fire engines from Bolton and two ambulances were dispatched, while the caller was kept on the line. Ian Holmes, aged 42, and his wife Andrea, aged 36, were about to go to bed when they saw the emergency services turn up. Their two children, Carol, aged 11, and Michael, aged eight, were asleep. Mr Holmes said: We were very surprised to see the firefighters walk up our garden as we were getting ready to go to bed. * +
