First off all Madrid tried to play the pressing game. When the right backs or left back was in control of the ball Ronaldo and Di Maria pushed up to put pressure on where Ozil pushed up to cut of the ball going into the midfield. It worked well as the first goal was a result of it. The high pressing game it actually created more space in the midfield for Barca to do their link up plays. look at how Barca plays. What they do is that their cb invite the forwards on to them. Then they press quickly and when the ball goes loose the other cb picks it up and play it forward to messi who goes into a center midfield role when they go onto defense. they don't play it to the midfield as their backs are turned to their own goal.
