PHONE: old nokia 6630. I feel sure the answer to this question must be no but Iam gonna pick your brains. I lost a lot of important texts that were stored in this phones internal memory in the text message drafts folder. I lost them a few years ago when I updated the phones firmware forgetting they were on the phone and I didnt back up. ive heard there is software to recover deleted texts, but can this still be done after a firmware update? the phone has not been used since but still works. * +

any advice would be appreciated. the 6630 is now on version: v 6.03.40 29/09/06 RM-1 NOKIA 6630. I know there is more chance in recovering deleted files on a smartphone than a dumbphone but I suspect the length of time that has elapsed here could present a problem? * +

What about a software to recover deleted phone numbers and applications and games and music and video etc. That would be black magic and you never backup. Firmware update is like a format then flash then update. * +

true but there is software out there thats able to recover deleted files. why? because when you delete a file the operating doesnt actually erase it! its the same with a computer. when you remove a program on a computer windows just accepts it as available space on the hard drive rather than completely erasing it. its a simular scenario with a smartphone, and its why some people are able to recover deleted programs on computers. and why some people go to extraordinary lengths to destroy data on an old hard drive, there is no black magic at all! * +

recovery isnt allways straightforward and you would never consider it as a substitute for a back up, but it is possible. * +

how well a computer or device is formatted depends on the type of format and the the software used to do so. so maybe now you can see why I asked the question in the first place, and although it may not be common knowledge there are some clever people on prodigits. * +

Where in the phone would store all deleted files after format or firmware upgrade. The private folder and system folder would be empty. I wish you luck * +

Depends if it has been formatted or how. anyway when you flash a phone are you not upgrading rather than formatting? as you would with a windows 8 upgrade for example. * +
