ur ear piece is the radio antenna itself. It is in almost all phones. Without it ur not gonna get any decent reception anywhere. Whether its possible or not doesnt matter. It has no point in it. * +

try this: short the first and 2nd contacts of the headset port using any metalic pin, then attach any long wire to the pin which will serve as the antenna.. Go and do it if you really wanna play fm without earpiece * +

Buy a cheap pair of headphones cut the wire a couple of inchs from the jack then plug it in the head phone jack, load up the radio and put it loud speaker mode and hey presto ! * +

I'VE GOT A BETTER IDEA! Just buy a speaker with the right jack on it for the handset and it should work. 
I've done this before with a home made speaker. * +
