The bahai faith was founded by Baha Ullah with the claim of being prophetic fulfilment of Babism, which is deemed as an outgrowth of shi ism. Babism flourished in persia between 1844-1852 but after exile the movement remained in the ottoman empire, particularly in cyprus. Bahais most holy book established a new set laws, commandments, regulations and rituals that seperate it from islam. In 1992 it was recorded that the bahai faith had established significant communities and teritories second only to christianity. The bahai faith had centres in 205 (now 235) areas worldwide and christianity has 254 centres in areas worldwide. The bagai faith includes 2,100 racial, ethnic and tribal groups with estimates of 6-8 million members worldwide, the majority being 3.1m in asia.. * +

Critics have claimed the bahai over emphasise obedience to their religious institutions and believe the highest leadership organ of their faith is directly acting before god and is infallible in all its decisions. Also that bahais have an unhealthy liking for bureaucracy and downplays the benefits of individual free thought. * +
