Biblical faith is defined in Hebrews 11:1 as '... the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen'. What is your understanding of the word faith and potential examples you could called an act of faith. * +

Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Romans 10:17.. hearing and hearing, emphasizes clear, rational understanding first. Biblical Faith is very often mistaken for blind faith, or a leap of faith. In the fact the contrary is true, Knowledge and Truth of God always precedes faith, The Word goes forth, and people consider the evidence before them, In Romans faith is literally dependant knowledge first, and being persuaded by the evidence an example as Abraham 4:21. What I would call an Act of Faith is a prime example Abraham, and his willingness to sacrifice Isaac, He had come to the knowledge of God, his power through the birth of Isaac, and certainly the first person to believe God can resurrect life. Because God had promised him through his son Isaac, he would have many descendants, he belived God, based on prior knowledge of God and proved it through his willingness to kill his only heir, whom he knew God would raise back. That's an act of Faith. * +

A casual stroll through the insane asylum shows that faith proves nothing - Nietzsche

The existence of an unsolved problem in physics is not evidence for a supernatural explanation any more then the existence of an unsolved crime is evidence that a ghost committed it.
