Hopefully a topic just to explore and discuss Buddhist beliefs, philosophy.A place where we can ask and hopefully answer questions on Buddhism.Buddhism is a vast topic with many schoolsschools of thought although they all seem to have the same core beliefs..just differing methods for getting to what they call the truth. * +

The central aim of Buddhism is to increase ones own compassion and wisdom through analysis and meditation..ultimately leading to what they call enlightenment.(omniscient mind, freedom from suffering) * +

As I said there are many schools of buddhism from Tibetan Mahayana(which includes the tantric teachings) to Zen (instant awakening) * +

Other belief systems or philosophies tend to base there beliefs and hopes on a personal soul that survives the death of the body or the personality is hoped to be resurrected at a later date. Buddhism teaches the opposite..ie the lack of self, there is no inherent self. Its this belief ..in an individual self existent self..that causes all our suffering. * +

From what I know, iits a belief that enrich and connect us,unlike religion that separates us. I think buddhism provides us with a more connecting way of thinking and it seems like is teaching us to move beyond of our anger and alienation toward a more connected stance. * +

''When I meet people in different parts of the world, I am always reminded that we are all basically alike: we are all human beings. Maybe we have different clothes, our skin is of a different colour, or we speak different languages. That is on the surface. But basically, we are the same human beings.'' - Dalai Lama * +

The Buddha was as far as I can tell the only spiritual teacher who said ''Don't believe a word I say without testing it out'' he actively told people not to rely on his words..but to try his methods out for yourself and if they are of no benefit to you then throw them away. * +
