It's always going to be difficult to depict the universe by the use of language. To explain most about what the universe is, or why it is, including dark matter and energy and the 11 or so dimensions. Next time you're washing your hair, scoop a glob of suds in your hand and look at it. Out of these suds, pick a bubble, that's our universe. When you add up all positives and negatives, the universe doesn't require energy to become a universe.

11 or so dimensions if string theory is right, so far there is no physical evidence. What you mean is a proto universe doesn't need any extra energy to expand but it still needs a catalyst. *
