I can understand what makes the brain, but what makes understanding, what are the components? 2 is made of 1 + 1. What about understanding? * +

There are infinite ways 2 is made, 2 + 0 being one, 1.5 + 0.5 being another * +

Consciousness is still a mystery, to an extent. How a brain processes information it gathers is a key, attention is another, its function is basically to aid in the brain's processing power and the attribution of significance to myriad individual aspects of our intake of data. Robotics is my bread and butter, and the formation of an advanced robotic brain would also include an ever changing means for its brain to focus attention on data it receives. Like the robot, our own awareness lies in the brain's own diagrammatic model of its own state of attention to keep up with the ever fluctuating intake of information. It's the cause of all our weird and wonderful ideas and differences in perception, messy and beautiful. * +

Now the more interesting question in my opinion, is not to ask what consciousness is, but how and why is the ability for consciousness even able at all? Why is anything able at all? It's easy to give a cause, but I want to know why is the capacity for a cause able to be caused at all? Back to the brain, itself, the universe and all advanced dynamic systems inside it have a common affinity. Unfortunately, I can't figure it out, it's just out of sight on the horizon. * +

The Big Bang didn't, chemistry and evolution did. There are degrees to understanding from instinct to cognitive reasoning with logic and maybe more. Big Bang gave the ingredients, time and interaction made the cake. * +
