So he sends his son to Earth, who does lots of good things for us and teaches us how to be good, and then he is betrayed, and killed on a cross in return, and then the people wear crosses around their necks as a symbolic reminder of his death. If that was your son, wouldn't you feel like turning your back on those people? * +

If God had abandoned mankind, we'd all be burning in hell right now. God is good and just, therefore He is totally justified in sending everybody to hell because we have all sinned against Him. Yet here we are, living, being given a chance daily to repent and receive the gift of salvation, which Christ paid for on the cross. God has not abandoned mankind, we have abandoned Him. * +
