from what ive seen it came about due to peoples objection to debauchery in the holy roman empire, lavish attire, naked portraits, golden thrones an the assumed authority of the pope.. However protestants are still religious right? * +

Isnt it the religion of the monarchy? Well an of it shoot at least in Anglican. It is kinda your state religion you should at least have an idea what it is * +

It's not state, it is a breakaway faction of Christianity, it all started with Martin Luther a Priest and doctor of the holy scriptures protested against indulgences by the church nailed his protests to the church in Wittenberg. There the Lutheran sec of Christianity was born later to be known as Protestantism they are Christians but not catholic, for example their priests known as vicars or pastors can marry and have children unlike catholic clergy where chastity is practised.
