I often wonder about people who believe/fear this hell fire nonsense. If the threat of hell was removed would they suddenly become murderers etc and generally not be good people? * +

No. Hellfire warnings are annoying. As kim said, if there was no threat of hell would you all suddenly become arch criminals? Not that eternal d*mnation in a sulphurous pit of hell fire is even mentioned in the bible aside from 1 or 2 ambiguous references in the book of revelations. It is used to scare people into submission * +
