Yes, they do worship him and many accept that as well. They however do not worship him as a God, deva, nor prophet or messenger of God but a human guru ( teacher) who had gained enlightenment. Buddhism is a non-theistic religion though generally and others do not depend on any supreme being for enlightenment Buddha is a guide and teacher who points the way. * +
