Example of an allegory, where Jesus says on the subject of adultery, that if our eye causes us to sin we should pluck it out. Surely a sarcastic remark by Jesus? Or wouldn't there be alot of christians who have no eyes? Lol. See one instance of allegory. He meant control our urges, we have freewill. * +

Sorry vampin for the late reply was at Church lol. Now then you ask some rather interesting questions? I would say that there are meant to be things not taken literal but allegorical in the bible and other 'holy books'. So did the second group lose faith? No they balanced their faith with the gift of reason. Jesus and other deities can be considered an Archetype within the person it appeals too.

-Balanced their faith with the gift of reason- So what makes the first group unreasonable? * +

well, first off I can't see Jesus being sarcastic.. or rather seems unheard of. though I am not saying impossible. For the second part Christians plucking out their eyes, No Christians would not lose their own eyesight for their religious beliefs. Because in today's world Christians sin all the time and think nothing of it except for -Praying for forgiveness- So really we could re-word that into today's logic. -If our eye causes us to sin we should pray for forgiveness.- Keep the eye to sin a * +

Something else I wanted to add about eyes causing us to sin. Bible says we are blessed with free will. Are we not also blessed with self-control? Because a Married man should be able to have a stripper walk up to him shake her as* for him and walk away without the Man touching her at all. My biggest problem here is there is SO little room for error in the bible. Far to many ways to sin and not be in good with God. * +
