Im not sure there is a difference. Which flag were these 'wars' fought under or for? A marauding islamic army repeadedly raiding your city , taking prisoners for slaves , r*ping pillaging and plundering. Hard to imagine that the inhabitants of the day defined it as anything other than terrorism. If these attacks then led to the raising of an army to go to war with the islamists does it then gain legitamcy as a war rather than terrorism? The rligion of Peace at 'war' with the world?
