I just saw an advert for Sharma on Shakespeare. They are two of my favourite things. Cant wait to see what he has to say about my favourite character which is Lady Macbeth. The physical embodiment of mans ambition or evil manipulator. Screw your courage to the sticking place and we not fail. Discuss. * +

Of course the story of MacBeth bears no resemblance to the actual historical events of what happened between he and Duncan and even Malcolm but you have to remember the events that had just unfurled as he was writing this story. Paranoia, treason, murder and painful torture were on everyones minds. * +

She poisoned herself with ambition, summoning the power to suppress her conscience in order for Mac to claim further power. In both destroying what's considered feminine traits, and the kindness of Macbeth, she destroyed their relationship. They were a couple bonded by shame and guilt, the love died, evidenced by Macbeth being so far gone as to not give a monkey's toss about her suicide. Lady B used what was expected of a man against Macbeth, which set him on his path to madness. * +
