I mentioned this in my spacewatch topic in general forum months ago. oh and it's happened before. Our galaxy, the milky way, is a spiral galaxy. It is believed to have once been a flat, disc shaped galaxy. The spiral shape it is now was caused by a similar 'collision' in the far distant past. The effect of which dragged material from our galaxy outwards as the colliding galaxy passed through ours, causing the distinct spiral arms we know today. *
